One of Many

Woman roller-skating (taken by me)

The world doesn’t revolve around me,

I’m a speck

In a very big picture,

Insignificant in more ways than I can think of

But I matter all the same.

The world doesn’t revolve around me,

I’m a credit

In someone else’s movie,

I have little to no screen time, truly

But I’m a star in my own.

The world doesn’t revolve around me,

I’m one of many

Unlearning generational trauma

So, they can be better for their kids,

Talking themselves up in the mirror

So, they can be more confident

In their decisions

Like realising that they haven’t even started healing

Or given enough thought to their goals.

I’m one of many

Paving their way through the crowd

Just so they can find a seat to sit down

And just breathe on their own.

I’m one of many

Tired of seeing the short days

Feeling the longer nights.

I’m one of many

Sitting at the bus stop

Falling asleep on the train

Overthinking about life,

I’m one of many.
